Black Hood with Arctic White Hard Top
This elegant example was originally ordered in late 1988, for spring delivery in 1989. With production of the R107 coming to an end in July 1989 after some 14,500 examples having been sold in the UK between 1971-1989. It makes this one of the very last ever delivered, this model possesses the facelift having come into effect in 1985 and incorporates many improvements on the earlier pre 85 cars.
The car war ordered new to a high specification. Finished in Arctic White with the ultra-rare Medium Red Leather interior. Front and rear seats are leather, both optional. The interior is a delight with crisp leatherwork which has clearly been cared for with no signs of undue wear. A retro yet modern feel inside with all the trimmings the “modern man” could desire. The selected options continue with twin illuminated vanity mirrors, Blaupunkt Cambridge Radio Cassette player and Hershman electrical aerial. (Although the latter was often donated and fitted by the supplying dealer). Moreover, the boot compartment appears hardly ever used, not a mark.
The Bodywork is straight, rust free and correct. Having been stored in a garage all its life as well as being supplied new to the Channel Islands where salt is not in the roads, it has not suffered the blight of rust that many mainland examples do. The underside, wheel arches and inner wing weld seams are all still factory fresh. The chrome is spotless and alloy wheels perfect. As can be seen in the images, all the floor belts, under boot nuts and screws are zinc plated as they came out the factory. A handful of age-related stone chips and minor grit marks on the electric windows are the only imperfections.
The R107’s all came with hardtops from new, although a delete option was available, with each hardtop carrying the chassis number stamped on the underside, this example is retaining its original hardtop. The hood too is in impeccable condition and being original factory fitment is quite remarkable, there is no damp and windows are crystal clear, the frame is also unmarked with no deterioration and hood storage area is pristine.
Mechanically it is immaculate with 17 service stamps in the book, as well as detailed bills describing the work carried out. A very recent service and an MOT in July means the car is ready to be used. Original first aid kit and tool roll (still in original plastic bag) are both present. Spare wheel with original Michelin tyre is accounted for.
In total an immaculate and original example of a genuine timeless classic.
